On October 13th 1999, at 19 years old, Nick Pasto entered the LDS "Missionary Training Center" (MTC) in Provo where he studied the Italian language for 2 months before going to the Italy, Padova mission for 22 more months.
Circle Davis, 21 years young, entered the MTC on December 29th 1999 (2 months after Nick). She served in the Italy, Rome mission for 16 months after a similar 2-month study of Italian.
When we returned from our missions in 2001, we both found jobs teaching Italian at the Provo MTC where we taught on the same shift. After much flirting and dating, we were married in the Oakland Temple on December 28th 2002.
We found that, in many ways, our lives had run their course in parallel. We both grew up in Northern California, we both went to BYU, we both served missions in Italy, we both taught at the MTC. Notwithstanding these strikingly similar paths, we had never met until we were teachers at the MTC (though we like to tell a made-up story about how we kissed across the border joining our two missions).
This web-site is a project to fit together more pieces of our separate but parallel past. We hope that by merging our mission journals, mission letters, mission photos, fellow missionary dedications, drawings, and many other tidbits, interesting intersections might be brought to light for our own enjoyment and the enjoyment of our family. We both credit our missions as times of great growth in our emotional and spiritual lives. Much of what we learned while serving the Italian people helped prepare us for our eventual marriage and family. This project has taken years to complete because it has had to fit in the little "free time" we've carved out in our busy life together. This introduction was written on November 8th 2013, almost 11 years after we were married.
