The Trouble with Numbers
Oct 16 2000:
Well I'm writing more often as my new missionary reminds me of the importance to keep a good journal - he tells me every night "o.k. now go get your journal and write in it." He's right - I should keep a better journal - I just get real busy and real tired and it keeps getting pushed back.

Well this last week was kind of a disappointing situation - it was a strange phenomenon. We had some really good appointments set up and we had to watch them dissolve - it left us teaching few discussions - and I felt bad because our numbers were low.

That's the detriment of numbers - sometimes they don't come out very high even though you worked hard and then you feel bad because every one else judges you by your numbers. Numbers are really an area for concern among a lot of missionaries - it's too easy to get concerned with trying to get numbers for your weekly report and forgetting that you are teaching real people. But I suppose we keep track of numbers for a reason. It has its pros & cons. (it's been raining for the last 2 weeks straight - which is kind of depressing too - l'Adige river is filled up to overflowing and floods have devestated a lot of italian cities)
