A Night to Remember in the MTC |
|
Oct 16 1999
Today was looking like it was gonna be a normal day...well I guess it wasn't really, but it definitely turned out to be a day (& night) to remember. The best part was that we got to go to the Provo Temple for the first time today. It's a cool temple & it was definitely a spiritual experience. The rest of the day went normally...until the night...
We said our companionship prayer & read out of Il Libro Di Mormon & read out of the missionary white book. We were just winding down and getting ready for bed when I decided to get a picture of me playing with the action figures that my mom hid in my luggage.
Here's where it gets interesting: we hung the Batman figure w/ green thread from one of the fixtures on the ceiling in my room. I got up on my chair w/ darth maul and was pretending to have them fight, one thing lead to another & the string got pulled on - this led to a plastic piece popping off the fixture (later found to be a smoke detector) and suddenly the fire alarm was resounding throughout the building. Mind you, this was at 10:30 exactly, the whole building had to evacuate & let me tell you, they were NOT happy.
All the missionaries in our building (about 150-200) had to gather outside in the cold, wearing their pajamas. We had to wait for about an hour before they got the alarm shut off. Suffice it to say...there was some grumpy people who were a little upset w/ us. It was actually pretty funny.
It did bring our district closer together though...so it wasn't for nothing. Our floor leaders kinda chewed us out...I think they over-reacted because it was a total accident. Anyway we got to bed about 11:45. Which equals tired.
