Journal Entry by: Circle Pasto - 12/30/1999 BACK

1st MTC Entry
Note:I chose to make my letters home serve as my mission journal as well, so they're all written to my family

Hello!

Can you say stomach spasms? I will be sticking to the salad bar section. :)

Well, I am in a threesome with the sweetest, most without guile, Sister Brough, from Salt Lake City and a cosmopolitan California (San Diego) girl, Sister (Sorella) Hutchings. They are both such girls. But they are clean and compulsive and obedient, so I guess I'll live. I see big groups of goofy Elders walk by and I find myself wishing sometimes that I could be a "solo sister" which there are a few of here. They get to have their district of Elders instead of comps. But if I have to have girls, these ones are great.

We woke up at 5:30 and did stretches and sit-ups!! Which is especially amazing because I didn't sleep barely at all because my mind was buzzing. Anyway, it's just the 3 of us here in our little room with one empty bunk.

I am writing this before I've even gone to any classes, so I'm sorry I can't give you a report about any of that yet. But I wanted to get this in the mail ASAP because Mom, you forgot to leave my ATM card. Is it still in your breast pocket? :) Anyway, I need it because I have to get $189 more of shots >:( the nurse asked if I had received any shots as a baby or child - first question - so what could I do? Lie? Anyway, I need it and maybe one of the checkbooks they send, but send the card as soon as possible please. Thanks for getting me the Tide and the umbrella.

I spent most of my afternoon yesterday hanging out with nurses and getting shots. I met this spiffiest lil' Elder from Chicago (originally Mexico) who was also going through the same hassle because when they came to give the shots in his school when he was in Mexico he snuck out the window :) so funny. We talked while we were waiting to get poisoned and he's going to serve in the ... SACRAMENTO CALIFORNIA MISSION!! Presently I forget his name, but he will be looking for you in El Dorado Hills if he ever serves there. He is tiny and sparkly-eyed and fairly fair-skinned. If I see him again I'll catch his name, they'll probably use him more in hispanic areas, but maybe you'll get a chance to work with him.

Anyway - this is going to be intense! Every minute schedules, sooo many books - I will be sending a box home, or at least to Ben and Heather, of superfluous items. One of my comps brought only a medium duffle and a 12x22 suitcase. She has inspired me to downsize at least enough to be able to carry both bags at once with less effort.

I miss you guys so much already. But I'm happy and excited. When I got my big blue bag of books, I found an epistle from Ethan that was so sweet and made me cry. He also included a bag of candy, lotion, and chapstick and much sage advice drawn from his extensive MTC experience :) I saw him in the hall yesterday leading his district. They were clearly all following him. He looked skinnier. He talked and talked and his companion rolled his eyes - I said, "you probably haven't noticed this yet, but he talks a lot" Then he said, sarcastically, "Oh, no, not Davis." So the lil' dork is doing well it seems. We'll barely see each other because we have very different schedules, but we might see each other at choir practice or in passing. We'll both leave around the same time because I'm in for 8 weeks and Japanese have 10.

I hope these girls can get used to me, they take everything I say so seriously, maybe I'm supposed to learn to be not-so-sarcastic or something. But they are nice, we just don't relate a lot. I'm sure I'll learn. Well my "personal time" is almost up. We have several blocks of personal time throughout the week instead of one big P-day, they find things run more smoothly that way.

Anyway, I'll get this in the mail and write more throughout the week.

I love you! I love the Gospel! I LOVE our prophet! I love the savior! I know the scriptures are true. I feel unequal to the daunting tasks before me, but I have faith I'll make it through with the Lord's help because there's no other way I'll be able to do it all. Write soon with much humor and sarcasm, lest I suffocate in sweetness. (I know I have pride issues, but humor me cause this is tough).

Love,

Sorella Davis
