Bike Wreck
March 14

Well today I'll start the New Testament. I've changed my goal though - I'm not going to write about what I read every day - but instead only about the things that I learn and really stand out to me.

This weekend was cool. My notes from the F. Burton Howard zone conference are on the preceeding pages. Before the conference I started drawing a picture of Capt. Moroni praying (see previous page) - I had just started when the zone conference started. So I stopped drawing and took notes during the conference - but the picture was unfinished and in between note taking I would work on the picture because it was there on the adjacent page.

There was a break in the middle of the conference and I went to the bathroom. When I came back out, president Curtis handed me a folded up piece of paper. I thought "Hmmmm....this is strange." On the piece of paper was written: "Elder Pasto, please don't draw during our zone conference. President Curtis."

Ouch.

I felt really bad. I didn't realize that it was anything really wrong - but after that note - I guess it was kind of disrespectful of President Howard. But it is kind of funny - and I've still got the note.

I also got in a bike accident in Rimini this weekend. Anz. Wooden and I were on splits in the Piazza in Rimini doing some street. We taught this older guy named Antonio. When we finished with him we looked at our watches and realized we had to be home in about 5 or 10 minutes. So we jumped on out bikes in a BIG hurry to get back in time.

Ancona is a bus city, therefore I'm not used to riding a bike in Italy or on the mission. While I was riding this Italian guy in a car flashed his lights and waved his hands at me, making me realize that I had forgotten to turn the lights on the bike. I looked down to see how to turn them on, and as I looked up I saw a car turning right in front of me. They slammed on their brakes as they saw me in the light of the street lamp and I swerved out of the way. I then had to swerve back on to the street.

I was a little out of control and off balance and had barely made it back on to the street, but was still very close to the side curb - the tires were about 1/4 inch away and almost rubbing along the curb. I saw this and realized that I wasn't out of trouble yet.

That's when the pedal came down and hit the curb and tweaked the bike also into the curb and sent me flying. While I was flying through the air I was thinking about my bad knee, and that it would be very bad to re-injure it. Luckily I was able to land without hurting it. I did end up hurting a lot of other parts though.

Nothing serious, just a little banged and scraped and bruised. My slacks were ripped open and I was bleeding a little, but I was able to pop the chain back on the bike and keep riding. We ended up being a little late.

I finally got a letter from Carrie. This one actually wasn't too bad. She put two letters into one envelope w/ pictures - it was so late because she was waiting to get the pictures developed. Also our friend Amy stuck a letter in with Carrie's. It was cool to hear from her too.

The best part of the letter was a small conversation that Amy and Carrie had on the outside of the letter. I actually got to see Carrie's personality come out for once. I was beginning to think she'd lost it.

The conversation reminded me of the good old Carrie I used to know - fun to be around. It also showed me that she's living a normal college girl life. Having fun - stressing over classes - and dating a lot of guys. Overall just living life like she should.

I used to think "Oh no, I don't want her to date anyone - I want her to think only of me" but come on, she's a young girl at BYU - she's doing exactly the right things. I know that's what I'd be doing if I were her. She's a good kid - I like her a lot - Magari io potessi sposarmi can lei un giorno.
