Transfer to Trento - "You're a good soul Elder Pasto" |

July 10 2000
Well, there's a lot to say. The other day we stopped by the church to make some photo copies for some less active work - We were only going to be there for a few minutes, so I left my bike unlocked. When we came back out, wouldn't you know it, my bike and helmet were gone - Qualcuno mi ha fregato. The next few days were tough because we had quite a few appointments and the city is BIG. I developed 2 big fat blisters which made walking even more fun. The good news is that one of our contacts - Umberto - races bikes and had an extra racing bike that he just gave to me for free! So now I get around quite fast. Like they say: "When God closes a door he opens a window." But, wouldn't you know it, a week w/ my new racing bike and transfer calls come - I'm going to a BUS city. It's quite a strange transfer - I'm staying in the zone and going into a threesome. I'm going an hour away - down to Trento. I'll be with Elder Barson (he was my Z.L. down in Ancona) and Elder Haws. We'll be together as a 3-some for 2 weeks until Elder Barson goes home on an off schedule transfer.
It will be an interesting situation with Elder Haws. He has a mental disability and has always been in special education classes his whole life. He has a lot of trouble with the language, but has really worked hard to get to where he is now. When President told me about it he said that he wants Elder Haws to have the chance to be senior comp. before he goes home in 2 months. But he also said that I'd pretty much be carrying the ball - it's going to be quite a challenge (I can already tell) but I know I'm going to really learn a lot. It will be a good opportunity for growth in me. President said something really neat to me over the phone, he said he wants me to do this because he wants someone who will be able to carry the ball, but will be very supportive and loving and not be so prideful to say "why aren't I senior comp?" That made me feel good. He ended the call w/ - "you're a good soul Elder Pasto." President is an amazing man.
Now I've got to say goodbye to everyone - which is always hard - but I'll only be an hour away. |
